Who is Rana Cabbar?
Rana Solakyan, known by his stage name Rana Cabbar, is a Turkish cinema, TV series and theater actor of Armenian and Greek origin, born in Istanbul in 1945.
After completing his education in Istanbul, he settled in Ankara and was involved in founding the Ankara Art Theater (AST). He is the first actor to play the role of "Objectionable Infantry" in the play "Inappropriate Infantry", which is adapted from Uğur Mumcu's book "Objectionable Infantry" published in 1977. After acting in AST for a long time, he also worked in different theaters.
He settled in Istanbul in 1982, acted in films as well as in many theater plays he took part in and directed. He starred in films directed by Erden Kıral, Ömer Kavur, Şerif Gören and Yavuz Turgul. He played mostly villain roles.
He became known in wider circles with the character of Süleyman Efendi in the television series "Aşk-ı Memnu". And he played "Hayat Devam Ediyor", "Büyük Oyun", "Kollama", "Kabadayı", "Kara Duvak", "Pars Narkoterör", "Beyaz Gelincik", "Akrebin Yolculuğu", "Şahmaran", "72 Koğuş", "Yer Demir Gök Bakır", "Adem İle Havva", "Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim", "Kadın", "Baraj", "Üç Kuruş" and many other movies and TV series.
In 2016, he received the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 22nd Sadri Alışık Awards for his role in the movie "Vezir Parmağı".
He died at the age of 78 in Taksim Training and Research Hospital, where he was treated on April 20, 2023. He was buried in Şişli Armenian Catholic Cemetery on April 22.
